Seen any good movies lately?

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

I hate when I actually take the time to visit the movie store and there's nothing that sparks my interest. Well, I've seen three movies in the past month that I've actually really enjoyed. So, if you're looking for some friday night entertainment while you sit in your sweats, cuddled up on the couch, you've come to the right place. (Or am I the only one who often spends my Friday nights like that?)

Loved "Just Wright." My mom and I watched it two times within a 24 hour time period. (We were at the cabin out in the woods, cut us some slack.) Queen Latifah is an all time favorite of mine.

Next, I saw "Life As We Know It" at the theater, which I haven't been to in forever. I really liked it. My brother refused to go, claiming we already knew how it would end up. Well, happy I hope! No one likes a movie with a sad ending. Romantic comedies are often predictable but that doesn't make me enjoy them any less, and this one has a baby, so that makes it even better.

Lastly, "The Gospel." It's a little older movie, but I just saw it recently. While the acting is not quite Oscar-worthy, it was entertaining. Or did I just like it because I have a small celebrity crush on Idris Elba? Either way, Martha Munizzi performed "Glorious" and I felt like I was back at church in Nashville, sporting my choir robe, and swaying back and forth on the risers. Book of Possibilities

Has anyone ever seen "The Last Holiday" with Queen Latifah?

It is such a feel-good movie. My three roommates and I went and saw it in the theater on Valentine's Day 2006. In the movie, the main character has this "Book of Possibilities" that she puts together. It holds pictures ripped out of magazines of things she wants to accomplish, places she longs to visit, photos of meals she's cooked in hopes of opening her own restaurant, even ideas for a future wedding, AND a future man:) My roommates and I were all single at the time (and weren't going on many dates..ha!), so we decided it would be fun to make our own Book of Possibilies since our lives were just beginning.

We had a lot of fun with our scrapbooking skills. Mine has four pages devoted to travel destinations, a few pages of fashion (including an incredibly fabulous walk-in closet, of course), pages gathering ideas for a future engagement, wedding, children etc. I pulled out the book in preparation for Wednesday's "Beautiful House Wednesday," because I have been obsessed with Designer, Tia Zoldan's home since 2006 when the Book of Possibilities made its' debut!

Yes, I actually scrapbooked Zoldan's home back in 2006 into my book of possibilities, because even then I found every detail of it very inspirational. Gone are the days of sitting hunched over on the livingroom floor with my three roommates, arguing over magazines. We have this fabulous new technology...blogging. My very own Blog of Possibilities.

stay tuned for more of this California cottage tomorrow...

"Did You Hear About The Morgans??"

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

I am a complete sucker for happy endings.
Last night I watched "Did you hear about the Morgans?" The entire movie I was thinking, 'this movie is ok. I'm not terribly impressed.' I just needed an excuse to sit down and rest my worried mind:)
It was kind of cute, don't get me wrong. I love me some Sarah Jessica. But the ending...was oh so happy!

(Quick disclaimer: If you plan to watch this movie and prefer to keep the ending a surprise, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER.)

After trying and trying to conceive, several unsuccessful attempts, dabbling in adoption options, endless arguing and disagreeing over this delicate matter...The movie ends with the married couple bringing home their newly adopted daughter, from China:) As if the picture wasn't sweet enough, Sarah Jessica turns, and wouldn't you know it, she's sporting a perfectly round baby bump. Two babies for the price of one:) I walked away convinced it was the best movie I've seen in years. For all you writers out there, all you need is a really great 3 minute ending and you'll have me drowning in happy tears!
