Project Completion: Rocking Chair

Sunday, April 22, 2012

Remember our chair project from way back?
Well, we FINALLY finished it. The finished product is not perfect and I have to go back over a couple of spots with the black paint again, but considering our lack of experience in upholstering, I think it turned out pretty good!

This was a pretty cheap project. With the price of the old chair, fabric, paint, nailheads, and a nail gun, the total was right around $65.

Thank you to my husband for testing his patience and humoring my project!

He's Alive!

I'm singing this song in church today. So powerful.

HAPPY RESURRECTION SUNDAY!

I've been a bad, bad girl...

I mean, blogger.

What have we been up to, you ask? Just living the dream here in the H.L. (Are you sensing my sarcasm?)
Today, however, is a fabulous day. Happy Good Friday All!

New Around Here

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

I am a HUGE fan of estate sales. (See some of my previous finds HERE.) Last week I stopped by one on my way to work. When it comes to these kinds of sales you have to be on time, if not early. All the good items go fast! I didn't have a lot of time so I literally ran in, scanned the huge room, spotted these light pink, marble horsehead bookends ALL the way across the room, grabbed them and left! I have been wanting a horsehead something for what seems like ever. They are the coolest I've seen yet. No spray paint for these babies.

Sorry for the blurry photos. I hung one of my favorite verses from the books, anchored by my favorite two horses.

My new pink sequin loafers!

And I finally got a new cell phone. Goodbye 1999 flip phone.

Are you seeing a trend? All new items are pink. What are you loving this season??

Life lately & I went to Florida

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

I have not posted in a while. Sickness and a little travel have kept me away. First there was a sinus infection (Jake), then a viral infection (me), then a deadly tooth infection (Jake), and last but not least, the stomach flu (me). Now that we are healthy over here--hopefully for good-- I am back in action.

A little over a week ago I was in sunny Florida. It was about 75 degrees everyday and the only catch is that I was there for work. But there was still plenty of fun to be had. We stayed at the Orlando World Center Marriott where I enjoyed the late night hottub, fluffy pillows, and mini bar. (Tip: Do not ever eat or drink from a hotel minibar, even if it's just a Figi water.)

Project: Neon Bracelet

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

I'm sure you've seen that neon's all the rage these days. Unlike other trends I try to avoid, I'm totally falling for this one, especially when it comes to jewelry!  Here are some inspiration images I've come across lately:

Painted neon jewelry- 'why can't I do that?'
The other day I found an old costume-y crystal bracelet in my stash and knew it was perfect for a little neon makeover.

There she is.

All you need for this little project is below.

1. Your paint colors- I used mod squad by Essie and lickety split lime by Sally Hansen in keeping with the neon theme. But of course, the possibilities are endless.
2. Tweezers- I just used my regular eyebrow tweezers to pry the prongs back and remove the stones.
3. Brushes- A brush smaller then the actual polish brush is necessary. I used two makeup brushes turned paint brushes and they worked pretty well.

Let dry about 30 minutes before replacing the stones and pushing the prongs back in place.

And enjoy!

Are you all loving neon as much as I am?

a week in the life

Friday, February 3, 2012

We have been working on our rocking chair and it's coming along. Not perfect, but pretty good for our first upholstery job. Possibly our last:)

I went crazy with my nail polish this week. All but one was midnight blue. Three different males felt the need to tell me that one of my nails was pink. Really, I had no idea? Colors are Mod Squad and Midnight Cami by Essie.

Tax season is upon us.

Aside from the usual Bachelor, Housewives, and ESPN watching, we watched the HGTV special on the 2012 dream home.  I want to win it- bad. I could totally live in Park City, Utah. Of course, there are things about the interior design that I would choose to change to better suit us, but with the $500,000 that comes with the grand prize, I think I could afford to. Or will that only cover taxes the first year?:) Either way, don't enter to win 'cause the house is mine!

Anyone else's week as exciting as mine???
