New Around Here

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

I am a HUGE fan of estate sales. (See some of my previous finds HERE.) Last week I stopped by one on my way to work. When it comes to these kinds of sales you have to be on time, if not early. All the good items go fast! I didn't have a lot of time so I literally ran in, scanned the huge room, spotted these light pink, marble horsehead bookends ALL the way across the room, grabbed them and left! I have been wanting a horsehead something for what seems like ever. They are the coolest I've seen yet. No spray paint for these babies.

Sorry for the blurry photos. I hung one of my favorite verses from the books, anchored by my favorite two horses.

My new pink sequin loafers!

And I finally got a new cell phone. Goodbye 1999 flip phone.

Are you seeing a trend? All new items are pink. What are you loving this season??

Project: Neon Bracelet

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

I'm sure you've seen that neon's all the rage these days. Unlike other trends I try to avoid, I'm totally falling for this one, especially when it comes to jewelry!  Here are some inspiration images I've come across lately:

Painted neon jewelry- 'why can't I do that?'
The other day I found an old costume-y crystal bracelet in my stash and knew it was perfect for a little neon makeover.

There she is.

All you need for this little project is below.

1. Your paint colors- I used mod squad by Essie and lickety split lime by Sally Hansen in keeping with the neon theme. But of course, the possibilities are endless.
2. Tweezers- I just used my regular eyebrow tweezers to pry the prongs back and remove the stones.
3. Brushes- A brush smaller then the actual polish brush is necessary. I used two makeup brushes turned paint brushes and they worked pretty well.

Let dry about 30 minutes before replacing the stones and pushing the prongs back in place.

And enjoy!

Are you all loving neon as much as I am?

I'm not as mean as I look in this photo

My new thing is the high bun. I wear one..hmm..almost every other day, give or take. It's the perfect easy hairstyle for dirty not-super clean hair. And it felt good to brush all the hair out of my face...BUT I got my bangs cut since this photo was taken. So, now the bun has some spice.

I pulled my pant legs up for this photo, I do not resemble Eurkel.

I am loving my newish camel colored grandma shoes. At least that's what I call them. They look great with jeans, skirts, and dresses. And they were 75% off. Bonus.

My Zara polka dot shirt I received for Christmas. Flowy, but fitted in the arms. And has a gold zipper all the way up the back to boot.

Project: Glitter High Heels

Thursday, November 17, 2011

I bought these gold high heels at a "barn sale". Yes, I said barn sale. They were 50 cents. I had an idea to spice them up for the holiday season.
Insert fabric glue and multicolored sparkles!
I coated the heels in fab glue, then over a shoebox, sprinkled the glitter all over them.

These photos were taken shortly after so there are some stray sparkles scattered about. The shoes really need 2 good coats.

You can see in the photos that I needed to reapply in a couple of spots, which I went back and did later. A little trick is to give the shoes a coat of hairspray and that keeps most of the glitter from falling off and tracking everywhere.

Now I'm ready to pair my "new" heels with my new emerald green silk shirt for holiday parties!

Etienne Aigner

          Meet my new favorite boots:

(The Chassity wide calf...does this mean I have wide calves?)

I am truly in love with them. I found them at TJ Maxx a couple of months back. I didn't whip the money out that day and then instantly regretted it. I knew they would look good with so much of my fall wardrobe! So, a week later I went back and purchased them for $50!
I somehow stumbled upon them recently while surfing the net. Macy's carries them for $179.99 and they are currently on sale for $139.99. I would say I got a great deal. And I love a great deal.

 Purchase them HERE

(wearing my etienne aigners with a gold dress and back tights)

(And here I am wearing them with black leather pants on my birthday:)

birthday wishlist

Monday, October 24, 2011

My 25th birthday is right around the corner, y'all. JUST for the fun of it I've decided to list a few items that I would like to unwrap on November 5th.

Notice I'm totally into the jewel tones this fall...royal blue, emerald green, and a rich violet shade of purple- with a little bit of black and camel leather thrown in for good measure. Yup, opening any one of these items would make me feel really good about turning 25:)

A Fall Love Affair

Sunday, September 11, 2011

I love fall. Or better yet, fall clothing. Forgive me for being superficial for one hot second. I love clothes, I really do. There's nothing better than jackets with belts, chunky sweaters, full scarves,  tomboy blazers, and great fitting jeans. Lord, forgive me.

Let us not forget leather, hobo bags, and boots for days...

This fall don't forget your fedora, fur and trench.

And leopard and coffee. Always leopard and coffee:)

Don't let your little girls....

Dress like tramps. Especially this Halloween. It's not cute.

Fortunately, I will never have to worry about any possible future daughter of mine dressing inappropriately before she's old enough to drive herself to the mall and purchase clothes with her own money. My husband is what some would call "old fashion". He got quite preturbed over a certain sailor girl costume I wore one Halloween. It was a little short, yes. But in my defense, I wore bicycle shorts underneath the skirt! Read this article, it sheds a little light on the matter.

A designer purse, except it's a fake. Would never fork over the money for the real thing. And it was a gift from Mom. Bonus.

The perfect summer pink Essie nailpolish. Mod Squad to be exact.

And Little Bee by Chris Cleave. A good, but hard read.

O's Guide to Life. Just for the pictures.
